Drought is crippling many of Australia’s farmers and their livelihood as prolonged dry seasons continue. Rural communities are experiencing desperate conditions as they struggle to keep their livestock and crops alive.
Drought relief campaigns ‘Buy a Bale’ & ‘We’re For The Bush’ are providing hope to ease the suffering of drought-stricken farmers. A variety of generous Australian businesses and individuals are supporting the drought appeal.
Eireka Pty Ltd, has made a kick start donation of $5000 and pledged to donate $1000 from every piece of equipment sold from 1 March to 30 April 2014 – a presentation will be made at the end of the April, the funds shared equally between the two chosen campaigns.
Eireka Pty Ltd director James Fitzpatrick comments, “Eireka hopes the donation will assist in alleviating the hardship that farmers and communities are experiencing.” Mr Fitzpatrick, who grew up on a family farm himself and has many customers in these drought affected areas, continues, “Over the years of supplying machinery, I have found people in country Australia to be very tenacious and resilient. It is a pleasure to support such a good cause; our thoughts are with them.”
The organisation, Buy a Bale, delivers hay and other essential items to farmers who have no feed for their cattle. People can help by donating as little as $20 for a bale of hay via www.buyabale.com.au or 1300 448 322. Farmers can also register for assistance online and check on hay distributions.
‘We’re For The Bush Campaign’ donations are being transferred to IGA supermarket & CRT Country Supply Stores vouchers. The Salvation Army, through their rural support services, will distribute the vouchers so those in need can purchase food and fodder. People can donate through the Commonwealth Bank, Farmers can contact the Salvation Army on 1300 36 36 22 for assistance.
